| Formal Name: N/A Informal Names: The Familiar Abbreviation: FAM Population: N/A Technology Tags: WIP Species: - Spoiler:
'The Familiar'With no confirmed facts as to the biological traits of the Familiar 'race', there is only speculation as to their physical attributes besides that which can be directly perceived. The few Familiars which have been seen all wore a seemingly mechanical, humanoid suit of some kind-- some with aesthetic differences (mainly in the mask, described further along this page), others without; there are those who believe this implies difference in rank or social/tribal/hierarchical standing. The suits appear to consist of ancient technology with no real perceivable updates, the used materials of no apparent benefit to self-defense, weight or comfort. Interesting enough, a large portion of the materials included with the suit has mirror-like qualities, effectively reflecting their surroundings and echoing the forms and faces of those they interact with. The most fascinating component of the Familiar 'shell' is unquestionably the mask: a weighted mixture of unknown metals (also with mirror-like attributes) and esoteric mechanisms which hide the 'true' faces (or wiring) of the Familiar being, each contained by simplistic ceremonial shapes, each older than the other. What is perhaps most intriguing about the mask is that the different portions of it appear to be dynamically engineered, thus allowing the various components of which it consists to 'move' independently, effectively mimicking distinct 'expressions'. These expressions are, however, often bizarre and exotic, with in many cases no recognizable meaning or pattern to them. Regardless, they at least bring some form of 'life' to the otherwise departed aura of the Familiar persona. The 'eyes' of the mask emit fierce light of altering colors. The Familiar seen so far move in a slow and thoughtful pace (both literally and metaphorically), evidently unhindered by the many burdens other sentients seem to carry. In interaction they are often obscure but appear benevolent in their intentions. Homeworld Name: N/A, referred to merely as 'Home'. Homeworld Location: N/A Homeworld Description: - Spoiler:
With no confirmed scripture on the traits or existence of the Familiar homeworld, there are only vague documents from forgotten ages and ambiguous rumors from deranged mouths. One particular point of interest is an archaic 'poem' of unknown date with insecure translation and missing portions: Planes ... Nothing, ... cry Do ... bid, ... us right ... Wiped ... slate clean ... goodbye
Fractures of ... mental ... ... no ... *incomprehensible* begged ... All ... want ... Home ... Familiar Interesting are the capital letters used for 'Nothing' in the first sentence, and 'Home' and 'Familiar' in the last sentence. The 'incomprehensible' note points towards a word unable to be translated. Another claimed source is an age-old diary of an explorer, titled (roughly translated once more) 'The Journey of *Incomprehensible* ... worlds ... forgotten': Winds awide, flock despair. The planes of Familiar reek of obscure nothingness and absence of residence. A desaturating fog hangs over the grey scapes and hills of mysticism, with the only dynamic present being tall shades hovering from point to point, in poverty of purpose and lacking true meaningful direction ...
... Woe this place, for it is limbo incarnate.
Political System: N/A, speculated autocracy or mystic meritocracy. History: With the very existence of the Familiar being of a nature obscure, there is little knowledge on their origins. Scriptures describe their presence in limited fashion, but some scientists claim that their existence goes back to the very first recorded eras, described by 'forerunner' species such as the Akhial. There is mention of one particular event across multiple writings, labeled 'The Cleansing'. The nature of this event is unknown. Oddly, there seems to be no significant progress in the Familiar existence, at least not deductible from documents discovered. Military Specifications:The Familiar seems to have no significant military force-- the only 'soldiers', seemingly belonging to some distinct form of military caste, have only been present as bodyguards for Familiar envoys, or rumored to have been acting as small striketeams in specific operations. Military Composition: N/A Hero Character: WIP
